Macbeth (Brief Story)

Macbeth

(Brief Story)

Macbeth is a brave soldier in Scotland. One day, after winning a battle, he meets three witches in a dark forest. The witches tell him a prophecy: “You will become king!” Macbeth is excited but confused. He tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, about the prophecy. Lady Macbeth is very ambitious. She convinces Macbeth to kill the king, Duncan, so he can take the throne.

Macbeth is scared, but he listens to his wife. He murders King Duncan while he sleeps and blames the king’s guards. Duncan’s sons, Malcolm and Donalbain, run away in fear. Macbeth becomes the new king, but he feels guilty and paranoid. He worries someone will discover his secret.

To stay safe, Macbeth decides to kill anyone who might threaten him. He murders his friend Banquo, who also heard the witches’ prophecy. Later, Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost at a feast and acts crazy in front of his guests. Lady Macbeth pretends everything is fine, but she secretly feels guilty too. She sleepwalks, trying to wash imaginary blood from her hands, and cries, “Out, damned spot!”

The witches give Macbeth more prophecies to trick him: “Beware Macduff (a nobleman),” “No man born from a woman can hurt you,” and “You will be safe until the forest walks to your castle.” Macbeth thinks he is invincible. But Macduff, who was born by a surgery (not “born from a woman”), raises an army to fight him.

Malcolm and Macduff attack Macbeth’s castle. Macbeth’s soldiers abandon him. Lady Macbeth dies from her guilt and madness. Macduff finds Macbeth and kills him in a fight. In the end, Malcolm becomes the new king, and peace returns to Scotland.

The LessonMacbeth teaches us that too much ambition and greed can destroy a person. Guilt and fear can make people do terrible things. It also shows that lies and violence never lead to happiness.
