Romeo and Juliet (Brief Story)

Romeo and Juliet

(Brief Story)

“Romeo and Juliet” is a famous love story about two young people from rival families in the city of Verona. Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, meet at a party and instantly fall in love. Their families hate each other and often fight, but Romeo and Juliet decide to marry secretly with the help of Friar Laurence, a kind priest who hopes their love might end the family feud.

However, trouble begins when Romeo’s friend Mercutio is killed in a fight with Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. Romeo, angry and heartbroken, fights Tybalt and kills him. As punishment, Romeo is forced to leave Verona. Juliet is devastated, but her parents pressure her to marry a wealthy man named Paris. Desperate to stay loyal to Romeo, Juliet asks Friar Laurence for help. He gives her a special potion to make her appear dead for a short time, planning to reunite her with Romeo once she wakes.

But the plan goes wrong. Romeo hears Juliet is “dead” and rushes back to Verona. He buys poison and goes to her tomb, where he meets Paris and fights him. Romeo kills Paris, then drinks the poison and dies beside Juliet. When Juliet wakes and finds Romeo dead, she is heartbroken and stabs herself with his dagger. Their tragic deaths finally make the Montague and Capulet families realize how their hatred caused so much pain. They end their feud, but it is too late to save Romeo and Juliet.

The play teaches how love can be powerful but also fragile, and how anger and pride can lead to terrible mistakes. It reminds us to solve problems with kindness, not violence.
